We offer comprehensive intrauterine device (IUD) services to support women’s reproductive health and family planning needs. Our experienced healthcare providers specialize in the insertion, management, and removal of various types of IUDs, tailored to meet individual patient preferences and medical histories.
We prioritize patient education, ensuring that women are fully informed about the benefits, potential side effects, and suitability of IUDs as a long-term contraceptive solution. Additionally, we provide thorough follow-up care to monitor well-being and address any concerns. Our goal is to empower patients with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
Hormonal Intrauterine Device
The hormonal IUD releases progestin, which causes the cervical mucus to become thicker, preventing sperm from reaching the egg. The hormone also alters the lining of the uterus, preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg. There are two types of hormonal IUDs available: Mirena & Skyla. Mirena can be used for up to 5 years, and Skyla can be used for up to 3 years.
Non-Hormonal IUD
The non-hormonal intrauterine device contains copper. The copper is slowly released into the uterine cavity. It stops the sperm from making it through the vagina and uterus to reach the egg, thus preventing fertilization. There is only one non-hormonal intrauterine device available, ParaGard. It can be kept in place for up to 10 years.
If you are interested in getting a Mirena IUD or other intrauterine device placed, please call our office at (919)781-5510 to schedule a consultation with one of our physicians.
